Guitars, Rock and Roll - Music on the Internet

The World Wide Web greatly increased the availability not only of music, but everything about music. You can find information on just about any performer, and song, or any type of music. You can listen to music of all types from around the world.  There are interesting sites to visit ranging from music museums, to sites on specific instruments, to thousands of sites for performers. In this unit we will introduce you to using the World Wide Web with music as the gateway. This lesson offers you a lot to choose from.  You may want to:

  • Research your favorite musician or musical style
  • Listen to a preview of a CD you may like to purchase
  • Visit incredible sites to learn about the history of Rock and Roll
  • Listen to internet radio Discover music from around the world

In addition, by the end of this session you will have learned the following about computers:

  • What a search engine is
  • Learn how to find any topic that interest you
  • Learn how to locate a particular items of interest to you.

Let's cover a few of the basics:

  • There is a difference between searching and surfing the Internet. Surfing is going over the surface much like riding the waves. Searching is targeted, looking for a particular item or items.
  • Not everything you will want to find is on-line. While you will find lots of free sites, not everything is free.  Much of the Internet is one big store that takes credit cards or checks to get that special item that you have been trying to find for months.
  • Looking for a particular item takes time and patience. Searching on-line is fun,but it does take time.  When you are ready to search by yourself, set aside an hour or two so that you can fully enjoy the adventure.
