VACATION IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

INTRODUCTION

Many people think vacation means traveling far from home to do things most of us can do right here. Finding fun things to do in our neck of the woods is just a mouse click away.   We are fortunate to be located in the heart of the "Inland Northwest" which includes areas of British Columbia, Western Montana, the panhandle of Northern Idaho, Northeastern Oregon and Eastern Washington: just 18 miles east of the Idaho border and 110 miles south of the Canadian border.

The list of activities for Spokane residents and visitors to enjoy is vast. Spokane County boasts over 60 parks. Twelve national parks are within a day's drive and there are over 75 lakes and perhaps as many rivers and streams within a 75-mile radius of the city. Seven ski areas are less than three hours away. Hundreds of miles of paths and trails are available for running, hiking, cross-country skiing and bicycling.

And for those not wanting an outdoor experience, a variety of events are offered regularly at the Spokane Arena, Opera House, Metropolitan Performing Arts Center and Spokane Civic Theater.

Exploring where we live can be fun and cost almost nothing. By using the Internet, local activities are easy to find and plan. Whether a day trip or weeklong excursion, Your Own Back Yard may be the most fun of all.

Let's Cover a Few of the Basics
  • There is a difference between searching and surfing the Internet. Surfing is going over the surface much like riding the waves. Searching is targeted, looking for a particular subject or subjects.
  • Not everything you will want to find is on-line.
  • Looking for particular information can take time. When you are ready to search by yourself, set aside an hour so that you can fully enjoy the adventure.

Below are sample links to show you the value of using the Internet to access vacation information. Learning about the many ways to find information important to you can be a truly rewarding experience.
